After 25 years, Khani & Auerbach has redefined itself. On January 21st, they will celebrate the GRAND OPENING EXHIBITION of the Art of Law Gallery within Khani & Auerbach’s existing space. Give your eyes a treat while experiencing a variety of our exhibition’s fascinating art. In addition to the artwork of partner, Khila Khani, Esq., there will be a variety of artists featured in this art exhibition.
The Art of Law exhibition opening is scheduled during the kick-off of Fort Lauderdale Art & Design Week and in conjunction with the always popular, Hollywood Art Walk. This event not only celebrates the exhibition opening, but is also meant to highlight and celebrate the arts within our community. During the event, we will be auctioning a piece of art created by another lawyer-turned-artist, Bob Peckar. 100% of the proceeds of the auctioned item will benefit the creation of an Arts Writing Scholarship, a scholarship created in the memory of a dear friend to both Khani & Auerbach AND Evan Snow of FTLADW/Choose 954. Only in Theaters
The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival invites you to a FREE screening of the compelling documentary
ONLY IN THEATERS An intimate story about a family business, but also about the future of cinema. Sunday, January 22 | 12:30pm | Savor Cinema Followed by a panel discussion and audience Q&A. ONLY IN THEATERS chronicles four generations of the Laemmle family who have dedicated themselves to supporting, innovating, and elevating the art of filmmaking. The beloved 84-year-old arthouse cinema chain, Laemmle Theatres, in Los Angeles, is facing seismic change and downward pressure. Yet the family behind this multigenerational business – whose sole mission has been to support the art of film – is determined to see it survive. As movie lovers, and especially as movie lovers who value the theatrical experience, it’s been a hard few years. Even before the pandemic hit in 2020, movie theaters, those great gathering places to be together taking in big-screen dreams, closed as the airborne virus swept the globe, and streaming behemoths filled the void with a never-ending beam of content pointed directly into our homes Will movie theaters survive? What of the theaters that specialize in arthouse, international and indie content? Will anyone ever want to leave their house for a movie again? These questions plagued the industry, cinephiles, and especially exhibitors in the rocky period of 2020-2021 as theaters re-opened their doors…we’re not out of the woods just yet. “’ Only in Theatres’ works as both a state-of-industry insight for those with a professional interest and an irresistible story of an American dynasty and love letter to cinema for a general audience” — WF, Galway Film Festival |

Light in the Dark Fest presents:
An Evening of Music and Art with Andy Friedman Andy Friedman is a visual artist, musician, and writer. His work, in its various forms, has been published in The New York Times, Rolling Stone, GQ, Vanity Fair, Ebony, The Atlantic, Sports Illustrated, Golf Digest, The Paris Review, New York, Esquire, The New York Times Magazine (where his art has twice graced the cover), and The New Yorker, where his cartoons and award-winning caricatures of cultural luminaries have appeared since 1999. Friedman is also a Topps artist with two popular seventy-card sets of painted baseball cards.
Friedman recorded his first album, 2006’s “Taken Man,” which features Ketch Secor from Old Crow Medicine Show on fiddle, at age thirty-one, less than a year after learning his first chords on guitar. “I had never sung a serious note into a microphone in my life,” says Friedman, “until I was in the recording studio.” The album’s title track appeared at #30 on a New York Post “Best Songs” list that included hits by Amy Winehouse, Bruce Springsteen, and Radiohead. In a 2011 interview with Vanity Fair, Scott Avett of the Avett Brothers highlighted a different song from “Taken Man” among his ten current favorites. Friedman’s sophomore album, 2009’s “Weary Things,” appeared on a list compiled by the Associated Press alongside releases by Tom Waits and Chuck Prophet of the year’s most overlooked. The event will include an opening reception from 6pm-7pm with a pop-up exhibit featuring his original art and cartoons from The New Yorker, original ink and watercolor paintings used to create the Topps x Spotlight70 product, and an assortment of the artist’s independently issued “one-of-one” art cards. This will be followed by Andy Friedman’s first performance of his music in over a decade (from 7pm-8pm) and a signing of Friedman’s Topps cards and other art during the closing reception. The event will also include a curated art show: Rock Icons of the Past, Present, and Future and will feature the work of local, national, and international artists including Art of Murf, Art by Morey, Sarah Jo Goddard, Jamie Roberts & others. |

Urban Sketchers Fort Lauderdale: Esplanade Park
During Fort Lauderdale Art & Design Week, we've scheduled a sketch meetup at Esplanade Park. Please join us to sketch this beautiful park with great views of the New River/ Riverwalk, water taxis, yachts, the Museum of Discovery and Science, and the Performing Arts Center.
Later on, as the sky darkens, the park will be lit up by the Ignite Art & Light Festival; so, feel free to stick around to enjoy the show and maybe grab some refreshments at any of the nearby establishments. It would be very interesting to capture the scenery as it is "ignited" by the light features. It's gonna be "lit"! We will meet at the white gazebo on the southwest corner of the park at 1PM on Saturday, January 28, 2023. We will conclude our sketching at 3PM; and share our experiences as well as "throwdown" our work. This event will end at 3:30PM. There is no cost to attend this Urban Sketchers Fort Lauderdale group event. There are several parking garages and parking meters nearby. Happy Sketching! |

C.S. LEWIS ONSTAGE: FURTHER UP & FURTHER IN
Fellowship for Performing Arts presents award-winning actor Max McLean in a dazzling, new theatrical experience that will take you Further Up & Further In the heart and mind of C.S. Lewis.
“When Lewis moved from vigorous debunker to believer, it wasn’t obvious he would become the most influential Christian writer of the past hundred years,” said Max, who also adapted the play. “Why did the BBC give Lewis a national audience to deliver unprecedently popular radio talks that would become Mere Christianity? How did Hitler’s devious charm influence the writing of The Screwtape Letters? What made Lewis such an effective apologist/evangelist to skeptics? Was it prayer? His expectation of the second coming? Or was it his deep longing for Heaven that also inspired much of his writing?” |

IGNITE: Live Performances
Ana María Caballero and Jason Sholl (hieroglyphica) will create a special edition from their sold-out generative FX HASH collection, POEMS IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN [PITPD], inviting participants to submit comments which will then be incorporated into the project’s algorithm to live-generate a unique, hand-annotated poem.
PITPD explores authorship. When a poem enters the public domain, it no longer belongs to its author but to its readers. In the intimate moments we read a poem, we link it to our private, pulsating worlds & help ensure others will read it, too. If history’s palms hadn’t held Sappho’s words, our fingers wouldn’t be holding them now. The verses vanish – just like our memory of their exact words might fade – but distilled, standout moments of personal connection remain. In time, even these wane, providing a scarcely perceptible backdrop as the poem is discovered & interpreted anew. PITPD represents a new form of poetic anthology – one that celebrates the role of the reader in shaping the life of a poem. Readers write poetry’s survival. Readers can comment on Wallace Stevens’ poem “Fabliau of Florida,” either in advance or during the live-generation session. The communally annotated poem will be minted as an NFT on CODAMADE and made available to collect as editions for IGNITE attendees. |
